Year 6 Set Sail With Minecraft Education to Build Viking Longboats

23rd Mar 2026

Year 6 pupils have been diving into history in an exciting and creative way by using Minecraft Education to design and build their very own Viking longboats.

As part of their World Around Us topic on the Vikings, pupils were challenged to follow a detailed blueprint to recreate a traditional longboat using digital blocks. This hands on project combined history, design and computing skills, allowing children to bring the past to life in a modern and engaging format.

Working in pairs, the pupils carefully studied the structure of Viking longboats, paying close attention to key features such as the curved hull, symmetrical design, and decorative details. They then translated these designs into their Minecraft worlds, problem-solving and adapting as they built.

This project is a great example of how technology can enhance learning, making history interactive, memorable and fun. Well done Year 6!
